Blitz

The second step in our Structured Literacy Flow

The Blitz focus is on decoding and encoding increasingly complex words using explicit and predictable routines and procedures. Students are taught to incorporate functional strategies for breaking down words at both the single-syllable and multisyllabic word level.

As children progress to Blitz, they have typically already mastered the alphabetic principle and begin to focus on utilizing that knowledge to become proficient with putting letters and letter combinations together to read and spell increasingly complex words.

Blitz provides opportunities for children to continue developing proficiency with letter sounds through engaging online instruction and engaging, multi-sensory practice activities.

It's a fact: When students' foundational reading skills are firmly in place they benefit from better word-level reading, improved reading accuracy, and an increased reading rate. For students of all ages, strong foundations result in better comprehension, an ability to tackle complex content area reading, and success on standardized tests.

Sessions

  • 12 weeks of targeted, cumulative, interactive, multi-sensory instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, syllable types, and fluency - prevents and remediates decoding weaknesses
  • Sessions are online in small dynamic teams of 3 members with others at a similar level of decoding difficulty
  • Students learn with and from other team members in a structured online environment
  • We meet online Monday - Thursday for 45-55 minutes each session
