Children who struggle with reading don't have the luxury of time when it comes to intervention. Your child can achieve significant and permanent gains in reading in 20 weeks by building a strong foundation in these 5 areas:
The TDC Structured Literacy Action Plan is unique, effective, and affordable dyslexia therapy. My goal is to make as much progress as possible in the shortest amount of time. Success requires repetition and many multi-sensory practice opportunities. This is why I work with children for 45 minutes 4 days a week for 20 weeks.
Your child will have a solid foundation and become a fluent, accurate, and skilled reader with increased self-confidence and a new level of independence.
Below is the recommended intervention flow that I recommend for the best possible learning outcomes.
It is essential to make the most growth in the shortest possible amount of time, and children who complete these 3 core programs, Boost, Blitz, and Essentials, improve two grade levels in reading, on average!
(20 weeks) This is the first step in building strong foundational literacy skills. These intervention lessons are for students who have significant and severe decoding weaknesses.
The primary focus of the lessons is phonemic awareness, phonics concepts, and essential word-attack skills, and the net effect of these lessons is faster and more accurate reading of complex text.
Placement in Blast or Boost will be determined by a personalized dyslexia screening and initial assessment.
(12 weeks) This is the second essential step to the foundation we build in Boost. This fast-paced, age-appropriate instruction re-teaches and solidifies key skills essential for close reading and good comprehension.
Each lesson has four parts: Oral Reading, with students periodically charting their own accuracy and fluency rate; Phonemic Awareness skill building activities; Phonics Concepts, taught with engaging manipulatives; and Student Practice with students reading words and sentences out loud,
(20 weeks) This is the third critical step for students to develop mastery and automaticity of key skills. These skills are needed for all future academic and life success. The lessons systematically teach the essential phonics structures that unlock the English code in both simple and complex words.
While the focus is word study (phonics and phonemic awareness), there is a high rate of transfer to students’ skills in other areas of reading, such as fluency and comprehension. The net effect is faster, more accurate, and more confident readers.
This powerful and mature scientifically-aligned reading skill instruction contains oral reading fluency passages and phonics practice activities that are engaging and age-appropriate for students who have already mastered their basic decoding skills offered in Boost and Blitz.
